Terms

What we promise, and what we do not.

Plain terms for a small practice. The important parts are section 4, which says what no counselor can promise you, and section 7, which says how money works.

Last updated September 13, 2026. Privacy and Terms change together and carry the same date.

01

The agreement

These terms are between you and Trask Education, a college counseling and tutoring practice operated by Austin Choi in California. They cover the website, the free tools, the signed-in platform, and any counseling or tutoring you buy.

Using the site means you accept these terms. If you do not, the honest answer is not to use it, and the free tools are free precisely so that costs you nothing.

Where a written engagement letter or invoice for paid work says something different from this page, that document governs the paid work and this page governs everything else.

02

Accounts and eligibility

  • One account per person. Keep your password to yourself; anything done from your account is treated as done by you.
  • If you are under 18, create an account only with a parent or guardian's permission. We ask you to confirm that at signup, and it is a real term rather than a checkbox.
  • We do not knowingly provide accounts to children under 13.
  • Give us a real name and a real email address. The email is the only way we can reach you about your own account.
  • Staff seats, which is what a tutor or counselor holds, are granted by us. They are not something an account can give itself.
03

Everything here is an estimate

Every number this site produces is a planning estimate calculated from information you entered. It is not an official transcript, not an official evaluation of eligibility, and not a decision by any university.

We work hard at being right. The UC GPA is computed on UC’s published rules, A–G eligibility is reported as a separate calculation because it is a separate rule set, and honors weight is taken from UC’s own published course list for your school rather than from what you tell us. The transfer side holds Cal-GETC, the UC seven-course pattern and the CSU Golden Four apart from one another for the same reason.

None of that makes the output official. Your school’s transcript, your counselor of record, and the admitting university are the authorities on your actual standing. If this site and one of them disagree, they are right and we want to hear about it.

04

What we do not promise

This is the section worth reading twice, because the industry this practice sits in is not always straight about it.

  • We do not guarantee admission to any college, university, program or major. Nobody can, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you something.
  • We do not guarantee a scholarship, a grade, a test score, or a GPA outcome.
  • We do not have a relationship with any admissions office, and we do not represent that we can influence a decision.
  • We publish no outcomes, acceptance rates, student counts or testimonials, because we have none yet. If that ever changes, what appears here will be real and independently collected.
  • Tutoring is teaching, not a guarantee of a result. We will tell you honestly if we think we are not the right fit, including when that costs us the work.
05

The free platform

The UC GPA Calculator and the Transfer Planner need no account and store nothing. The wider platform, meaning the profile, coursework, activities, essays workspace and college list, needs a free account so your work can be saved. There is no card, no trial, and no feature that stops working after a period.

Free means free, and we intend to keep it that way. We are not going to pretend we can bind ourselves for all time: if the economics of running it ever changed, we would give account holders notice and an export rather than putting a paywall in front of work you already did.

Free also means best effort. We do not promise the site is always available, and we do not offer a service level on the free tier.

06

Essays

Students write their own essays. We coach, ask questions and edit. We do not write essays, and we do not generate them with a language model.

That is a term of this agreement, not only a marketing position. The essay workspace holds prompts, word counters and brainstorming scaffolds built from activities you logged yourself. It does not produce prose and there is no button that would.

You are responsible for the work you submit to a university, and for its accuracy. Every application you file asks you to affirm that the writing is your own; our coaching is given on the understanding that it is.

08

Enrolment deadlines

Some packages close on a date, and that date is published beside the price. Those cutoffs are real and they exist to protect the work: an application engagement sold too close to a university deadline cannot be delivered properly, and we would rather turn it away than do it badly.

A closed enrolment is not a negotiation. If you find us late, say so and we will tell you honestly what can still be done, which is sometimes nothing.

09

Data we did not write

The site reads UC’s published A–G course lists, ASSIST’s course and articulation records, and a snapshot of the federal College Scorecard. We reproduce those as we receive them and we do not warrant that they are current, complete or correct.

Two known limits, stated because you should plan around them rather than discover them. ASSIST publishes articulation agreements roughly a year behind its course list, so a requirement that changed over the summer may not appear yet, and the year in force is labelled on screen. The college dataset is a periodic snapshot, so admission rates and score ranges drift between updates.

Trask Education is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the University of California, the California State University, the California Community Colleges, ASSIST, the Common Application, or the College Board.

10

What you write stays yours

Your essays, your notes, your record: yours. We claim no ownership of anything you put into this platform and we do not license it to anyone.

You give us only what is needed to run the service for you, which is permission to store your content, display it back to you, and show it to the tutor or counselor you are working with. That permission ends when you delete it. We do not use your content to train a model.

11

Acceptable use

  • Do not try to reach another person's record, or probe the site for ways to.
  • Do not automate against the site or its course-list endpoints. They are rate limited, and the limits exist so the free tools stay up for families using them one at a time.
  • Do not upload anything unlawful, or anyone else's personal information without their permission.
  • Do not resell, scrape or redistribute the course and articulation data this site assembles.
  • Do not impersonate a student, a parent, or a member of staff.
12

Ending it

You can close your account at any time from the account page. It is a hard delete and it is immediate. You do not need a reason and we will not ask for one.

We may suspend or close an account that is being used to break section 11, or where keeping it open would put other families’ records at risk. Except where the abuse is ongoing, we will tell you why and give you a chance to export first. Paid work already delivered is still owed; paid work not yet delivered is refunded.

13

Disclaimers and liability

The site and the free tools are provided as they are, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error free.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Trask Education is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost opportunities, including an admission decision that did not go the way you hoped. Our total liability for any claim relating to paid services is limited to the amount you actually paid us for the service the claim concerns. For the free tools and the free platform, where you have paid nothing, our liability is limited to one hundred dollars.

Some of these limits do not apply where California law does not allow them, and nothing here limits liability for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If a court finds part of this section unenforceable, the rest still stands.

14

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of laws rules, and any dispute belongs in the state or federal courts located in California.

There is no arbitration clause and no class action waiver on this page, deliberately. If we ever add one, it will be announced rather than slipped in, and existing account holders will be told before it applies to them.

15

Changes

We update these terms when the practice changes, and the date at the top moves with them. Continuing to use the site after a change means accepting it. For a change that materially reduces your rights or increases what you owe, we will email account holders before it takes effect.
